Hey, guys! I'm looking for new artists to help promote up here. Send me a note with a link to the artist's site here on DA and I'll check it out!

It's not often that I kick back and become a player in any of the Saturday Night RP games, but I will be tomorrow.  The boys thought I needed a break from being in control of the game and suggested that I sit back for a few weekends or so.  I have no problem with that ... especially if I can enjoy how others run a game and learn some pointers on how to become better.

The game tomorrow night will be based off of books called "The Dresden Files", a series I'm only marginally familiar with through talking with the GM, the Wiz Kid, and my nephew.  After talking a bit, he's going to allow me to play a version of my Caitlynn Wildfire (the anime look, not the PlastiCat, though she will be using that name ... I think.)  The Wiz Kid took a copy of her character sheet, plus Israfel Vincent's stats (as a normal human), and will make changes as he feels are needed.

I have to admit that I'm curious to see how this comes out ... though the group understands that my patience for vampires, angels, and the like is stretched thin, thanks to shows like "Angel", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", and "Twilight".  I will admit that I have seen none of them, but I have dealt with people who are big fans and who insist on playing characters based off of the show on-line.  I very rarely will say anything because I believe in allowing people to be who they want to be when it comes to an RP game.  However, there is something to be said about a character fitting in.  Most of the time, people do a really good job with fitting the character in ... but it's the rare times it doesn't work that bothers me.

My nephew just spent the better part of an hour talking to me on the phone and explaining to me about the history of the series and why he thinks I would like it.  It was a fascinating phone call ... and one I'm grateful to have.  I do NOT wish to go into this game and be a turd.  It's all about having fun.

The Wiz Kid did his best in selling the idea of the story to me and what he did share seems like it will be fun.

So, I will focus on that.  :)

Wish me luck.

Love and Kisses,
Loonia

Ooh, Dresden Files! I envy you... (Can you tell I'm a huge fan of the series? Any series whose central character was once described as "Gandalf on crack and an IV of Red Bull" is good by me!) Hope you have a great time!

It was a lot of fun! The Wizkid did a really good job, especially with such a large crowd of people ... eight people plus himself. :)

Cool! I'm glad you had a good time. That is a good upper-limit game size (in its heyday the Rifts game I was in hit about eight people). It definitely takes a GM with good management skills to handle that many.

Personally, I think eight is too many to be a good group. Now last night ... I'll let you read the new journal to find out more. :)

From what I've heard 'The Dresden Files' is more wizardy than vampirey.. but I dunno about the game, I've only seen bits of the tv show. It's very strange trying to get used to the idea of a middle aged, slightly stubbly man in a dirty coat as being a 'wizard'. No beard!

Hope you have fun though :)

The game went pretty well as far as I was concerned. It's a large group which the GM is handling pretty good. He had a pretty simple, yet straightforward story going on. Though, like me, he loves to have a few secrets thrown in there and a few pitfalls to keep the game unexpected. I'm not sure how I did as a player, but it was funny. At the start of the game, people were talking about their characters ... when asked, I told them they would have to wait and find out. One guy came over and glanced at my laptop which I firmly pointed out that was poor form and to please not do that. He nodded. are, for the most part, good gamers and good sports. The older people (the more experienced gamers) were trying to come up with a plan while the "young bucks" were going for the "dash and smash" tactics of youth. It made for an interesting game that had me tired out by the time I got home around midnight.

All in all, I think I will enjoy the series. :)

I'm guessing you are asking about the note above the journal entry. I'm always looking for a Deviant Art artist to showcase by putting a link to their site here at DA at the top of the journal entry.

No I meant does it have to be a drawing or can it be a story?

I suppose it could be. I never had ... no, that's not right. I have had a few writers ask me for some showcase at the tops of the journals. I think I have done it with one or two in the past, but I'm not sure without looking. I will warn you I'm not a fanfic fan and there are a few anime series and TV shows out there that I notice right off in stories and I stop reading right then and there. Also, being a bit of a writer and former teacher, I'm a good deal harder with the writers than I am with the artists. So, a writer has to really dazzle me with some good characters and a good story.
